Sydney: Hello listeners, this is your editor, Sydney, with today’s messages:

I’ve got a quick exercise for you. Close your eyes if it’s safe to do so (sorry active drivers), and let’s take a deep breath in. And out. And one more in, and out. Cool, now you’re slightly more oxygenated, and also you’ve taken about as much break as I can make you take in today’s world that can optimistically be described as busy and stressful. Don’t forget to breathe after this break either, it’ll still be important then too.

And if you need something else to listen to in your ten second breaks once this episode ends, consider backing our Patreon, which gives you access to bonus episodes, campfire conversations, and other fun rewards.

And with that, we wrap up today’s announcements and head into Season 3, Episode 66: Taking Some Time Away. And so…

“Join us, for now our tale to yours attaches

Penn (as Marathon):  Last time on a Knight of Shreds and Patches, I’ve been fulfilling my community service work, I’m actually just about done, um, which is pretty nice. Just in time for us to, uh, be heading out of here soon, I think. Emma is working on fixing the Knight with Cassidy and Winifred - sounds like that was going well, I’m not for sure about all the techy stuff there and Birdie said she was going to wrap up some stuff with some of her siblings um before we go. Um, but yeah, I dunno. I’m just really thankful that Nona was willing to take in some of those Drain Boys and Jem, so I feel like, you know, all this community service stuff - it was worth it, you know? And maybe punching Karma was a good thing in the end. Maybe. Kinda. Don’t tell Cassidy I said that.

[radio static]

Episode Start:

Nick:  Emma, you can't help but be surprised at how calm and peaceful the garage is as you are shunted out of the computer system in a disconcerting wave. You find yourself looking at Winifred and Cassidy. They look back at you, and you are no longer in the Knight, having apparently fixed it? You're not entirely sure. You found yourself tossed across the room as the system forcibly ejected you, pulling your headset free. Luckily, you landed in some boxes, and you are okay. But it was a shocking ejection.

Sydney (as Winifred):  That was a weird exit. You okay?

Cameron:  Emma lightly shakes her head and blinks her eyes a few times, and then looks up out of her impromptu box fort at Winifred and Cassidy standing in the back of the rig next to the Knight, and then a little bit further outside the rig where Cass had been reading, and says

Cameron (as Emma):  Ow.

Cameron:  And tries to push herself out of the boxes. Some of the boxes shift around a little bit so that she falters back, and it's not actually a sturdy surface to help her push herself up, so she just kind of scoots forward out of the boxes, and then sits cross-legged on the floor, just drops her head into her hands, and is rubbing her temples.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah, it's a little draining,

Cameron:  And is just doing some deep breathing exercises.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah, sometimes it's like that.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Emma, you feeling all right?

Cameron (as Emma):  Ugh. Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Winifred, you guys - is it, is it done?

Cameron (as Emma):  I'm okay. It's just very bright out here.

Cameron:  It is not bright in this garage.

Sydney:  Winifred looks around.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Maybe we should get you back up to the I don't know somewhere a little cozier, or we could put you in the cab. Yeah, Cassidy, I think we got it. I think we're good.

Cameron (as Emma):  The Knight should be fixed.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah, Emma -

Cameron (as Emma):  I saw it.

Sydney (as Winifred):  - fought a big virtual conflict?

Cameron (as Emma):  Mhm.

Sydney (as Winifred):  I don't know what you were seeing on your side.

Cameron (as Emma):  Um, a giant shadowy purple - picture, picture the Knight if it was evil, in like a cartoon.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I mean, I guess I've seen it from the outside when it's not behaving, so not that hard.

Cameron (as Emma):  I don't know. It it it moved different than that. It imagine the Knight if it was a spider? I don't know. It was the Knight, but but wrong, and it and I had a really big sword,

Sydney (as Winifred):  And she won the day.

Cameron (as Emma):  and was mean to me.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Emma, do you want to stay here or do you want us to go find somewhere cozy?

Cameron (as Emma):  Um, I I wouldn't object to going somewhere with pillows.

Cameron:  Emma squints up at Winifred.

Sydney (as Winifred):  I mean, you can lay on these if you want, but

Cameron (as Emma):  Yeah, I - physically feel okay. Think I'm gonna have a bruise from where my butt hit the floor of the rig when I somehow moved from over there.

Cameron:  And Emma points to where she had been sitting with her back up against the Knight,

Cameron (as Emma):  - over to there.

Cameron:  And gestures to her now collapsed box fort, and is like

Cameron (as Emma):  That'll [sigh] that'll... that'll probably bruise. That, my my lower back's already hurting ever so slightly, but my my head hurts.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah, I think the switching between the digital and the analog as you got dropped there, your body probably was trying to react,

Cameron (as Emma):  [pained noise of agreement]

Sydney (as Winifred):  and it [laugh] threw itself in a way as it was taking back control.

Cameron (as Emma):  I don't. I don't. I don't know it. [headache mmm] I don't know. I don't know how this translates into things a computer can actually do with this connection system, Winifred, but it felt like the Knight threw me out.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Mmm~ okay.

Cameron (as Emma):  But it was our Knight that threw me out. It was after the bad Knight was gone.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Could be a like self defense to make sure it has a chance to recuperate?

Cameron (as Emma):  Yeah, that that that makes as much of sense as anything else I'm gonna come up with at the moment.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Well.

Cameron (as Emma):  The the the the last bit after after actually taking doing the final hit to the bad Knight, everything's kind of fuzzy, and then I was I was here in the boxes.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Well, maybe we go up and have Maria take a look and make sure nothing, you don't didn't whack your head on anything.

Cameron (as Emma):  Okay.

Sydney (as Winifred):  I mean, we were going through our debug key, so anything across like the Cyberlink shouldn't have been able to have any effect. That was the whole point. Unless you had, unless you're somehow telepathically communing with it or something.

Cameron (as Emma):  Uh, no?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I mean it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it's not a skill that Emma's ever had. No.

Cameron (as Emma):  I kind of thought that the the telepathically talking to it required being another machine.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, that was my understanding too. But you never know, I guess.

Cameron (as Emma):  I don't think I have the interfaces to do that unless I am wearing that.

Cameron:  And Emma gestures too, where the headset that she had on is now laying discarded on the floor.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Well, you can hold on to that one. I think -

Cameron (as Emma):  Oh thank you!

Sydney (as Winifred):  - knowing the stakes of making sure this thing stays working correctly, I can cobble together another one. That's my backup anyway. So now you've you've used it enough to.

Cameron (as Emma):  I know I'm not making eye contact, but greatly appreciated, Winifred. Thank you.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Okay, let's get you back to my place. We'll have Maria look at you and make sure you're all good. Cassidy, help me help her up?

Sydney:  And the two of them each give you a hand.

Cameron:  With their assistance, Emma is able to get up to standing, but is ever so slightly sway-y in an unpredictable manner, and it's obvious that she probably is incapable of keeping herself totally upright at the moment without assistance.

Sydney:  And then Winifred wraps an arm around Emma's shoulders, an affectionate and also a familiar gesture that many people have seen walking through the streets of Sasnak.

Sydney (as Winifred):  All right, let's get you back.

Cameron (as Emma):  Okay.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Cassidy, you want to lock up and then you can meet us there? I want to get walking.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, no worries.

Cameron (as Emma):  You have to you have to go on your date, right, Cassidy?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, that's my next thing. Marathon's, if I counted right, and Marathon's been getting all her hours in, I think this is it. So

Cameron (as Emma):  She's gonna be done?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah.

Cameron (as Emma):  Finally escape?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  She can take a shower, and once the Guts smell is out, it won't come back.

Cameron (as Emma):  Oh, that'll be pleasant. Look, I I am big big fan of Marathon, but sharing a room with her...

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Mm yeah.

Cameron (as Emma):  -[laugh] has not been great recently. [laugh] Ow!

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, we're done - we're done with all of - I think we're, if the thing's working too, I mean, we're ready to go get back on the road once we finish wrapping everything up. So

Cameron (as Emma):  Yeah, i I think I think we're we're good. I can I'll come back when my head doesn't feel like this,

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah.

Cameron (as Emma):  And run another diagnostic and make sure it's happy, but

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah, no use pushing it. It's it is a strain, especially if you're - it took a few times before I really had my, I was gonna say sea legs. Computer legs?

Cameron (as Emma):  My robot legs.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Yeah,

Cameron (as Emma):  No, that's actually a thing that you could have, that's not digital.

Sydney (as Winifred):  You ever think about how sea legs is still like a figure of speech here, and Sasnak has never been to the sea, and probably, hopefully, never will?

Cameron (as Emma):  Huh? You know, I hadn't until you just said that. It would kind of make more sense for you to like have land legs or something because you weren't used to the world not moving while you were standing on it.

Sydney (as Winifred):  Well.  Anyway, don't think too hard about it.

Cameron (as Emma):  I shall have to ponder this as we work - or walk. Walk. Okay. Have fun on your date, Cassidy. Tell Marathon that I said hi.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yep. Will do. Take care of yourself.

Cameron (as Emma):  Okay. I'll try. [laugh]

Sydney:  And Winifred leads Emma slowly and gently away, and Cassidy closes up the back of the rig and drops the garage door behind her before heading up to the shipping container to go get ready.

Nick:  Where do we find Marathon as she sits and waits for Cassidy to join her?

Penn:  Marathon is sitting in a well-polished bar that is full of well-polished people in one of the Domes. There is some funk playing in the background as Marathon sits in a very elaborately decorated chair. She's wearing a white button-up and a black tie with some black pants, and she's got her black leather jacket draped around the back of the chair behind her, and she's sipping on some sort of whiskey cocktail, head nodding to the funk as she waits patiently and enthusiastically for Cassidy, and she smells much better.

Sydney:  Marathon sees coming through the front door and unbuttoning her long jacket to hand it to the coat check, Cassidy. As her jacket comes off, she's wearing a sleeveless, quite short, very brightly colored flower print dress with a pleated skirt that slightly flares as she pivots to start walking towards you, and low heels. Her hairs up back in a modification of her classic crown braid, looking ready for a nice night.

Penn:  As Marathon sees Cassidy coming in, when she briefly looks away from the music to see the door, her eyes go wide. And she sets down the drink she was sipping and gets up pretty quickly in order to pull the chair across from her back so that it is ready for Cassidy to sit.

Penn (as Marathon):  Welcome. I thought I'd take us somewhere a little nicer. I don't know. I'm celebrating.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, you're finally done with the stuff?

Penn (as Marathon):  How did things go with the Knight?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  We did it., And by we, I mean Emma and Winifred.

Penn (as Marathon):  Nice.

Sydney:  Cassidy inches her seat forward and sits down next to Marathon and flags the bartender down.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  You smell good. [laugh] You don't smell bad.

Penn (as Marathon):  Nah, got some aftershave. Emma, helped me out.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  This checks out. [laugh]

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah. But I thought I'd pick something - I don't know. You like music - they didn't have a piano bar or anything around here, but they had, I know they had some funk. At least I heard about it.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, this is this is -

Sydney:  As Cassidy looks around at the room and takes at the ambiance.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  This definitely reminds me of a couple of places in Mellow Tone.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, I thought so. Does it measure up?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  It's a good, I think it's as good as you'll find outside of Mellow Tone.

Penn (as Marathon):  Well,

Sydney:  And she puts in an order for a beer.

Penn (as Marathon):  Well, let me say I'm happy to be sitting next to probably prettiest person outside of Mellow Tone. Probably inside of Mellow Tone too.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, if I was the prettiest person in Mellow Tone from here, something's gone wrong.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, true. Some time boundary place existed portal. I don't know.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, exactly.

Penn (as Marathon):  It's more Emma's realm. But either way, you do look great tonight. So

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Thank you.

Penn (as Marathon):  And I love the makeup.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I had to keep up with the colors of the dress. Go bold or go home.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah. Well, looks like we can both polish up when we need to.

Sydney:  Cassidy reaches out and messes with Marathon's lapel.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  So fancy.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, yeah. Well, I'm free. I'm a free woman. No more Guts for me. So thought I could start wearing the nice clothes again.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  And now you've learned all your lessons and - [laugh]

Penn (as Marathon):  It's true. I actually have some paperwork,

Penn:  And Marathon reaches down into her jacket pocket and pulls out a piece of paper.

Penn (as Marathon):  I've actually got some paperwork to help prove it. I just need a signature from someone who can attest to my change of character.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, I don't know. What if a Ramp Girl walks in here? Are you gonna have to punch her?

Penn (as Marathon):  Ugh. I mean, the impulse will be there, but I'm working on my impulse control. I've been told that's something I need to work on, so. Depends on how they look at you, though.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Mhmnm.

Penn:  Marathon unfolds the paper.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I'm not into people - don't go, don't go punching people in my imaginary defense. If someone's trying to do something, I can take care of myself.

Penn (as Marathon):  Of course, of course. But if you ever did need me to... [small laugh]

Sydney:  Cassidy picks up the paper, starts skimming it.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  They're saying you showed leadership on the job. [laughing] Is this the all those kids you brought back?

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh yeah, the new roommates? Yeah, sorry about that, but I don't know. Felt like good thing to do. They got a home. I bonded.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, you're you're lucky -

Penn (as Marathon):  Thank god for Nona.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  - Nona was fine with that.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, yeah. That took some - well, I just needed to ask, really. So, but those kids taught me a lot about leadership.

Sydney:  Cassidy pats her pockets, realizing that her pen would be in her coat.

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh, no worries.

Penn:  Marathon looks with a little smile.

Penn (as Marathon):  I got one for you.

Penn:  And she pulls a pen out of her jacket as well.

Penn (as Marathon):  Thought you might not have pockets.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Thank you. Mhm. It's the trade we make.

Penn (as Marathon):  And what a wonderful trade it was.

Sydney:  Cassidy adjusts slightly how she's sitting to make sure that all of the important bits are covered, which is a little bit of a challenge with how short the skirt is, and then goes to scrawl a Cassidy Shard across the signature line with a flourish.

Penn (as Marathon):  Thank you.

Penn:  Marathon takes the paper back, folds it, and puts it back into her jacket pocket.

Penn (as Marathon):  And with the delivery of that tomorrow, I am officially changed, because of my community service. I am improved.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  You've learned your lesson, and you'll never have these problems again. And -

Penn (as Marathon):  I'll never punch anyone in the face again unless you ask for it, or Emma does for that.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Okay, so it's not an unless they're asking for it, it's a if if you if I tell you to.

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh yeah, I could I could pinky promise on that.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't know that I need to. I don't I don't need that responsibility. But

Penn (as Marathon):  Well, then I'll just give you a a regular promise. I, I - you know what? I don't need you to tell me at all. I'm working on my impulse control, you know. That's my it's my journey right now.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  You pinkie promise that you're that you that you're working on it?

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, I do promise. How about you? What are you working on?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Um. Well, we now have enough money to eat all the way till we get to Mellow Tone.

Penn (as Marathon):  Perfect.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  And that's what I've been up to. Don't ask how that's happened, and don't listen to the radio.

Penn (as Marathon):  I did hear one of your ads, actually, down down in the Guts.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  No, don't listen to the radio.

Penn (as Marathon):  Trying to get us -you know, my kid, the kids down there, my kids, they got riled up about the aquarium. You did a good pitch.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Oh yeah?

Penn (as Marathon):  Yep.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Their, their world's gonna be changed. They're gonna go, I don't know, ride the wave?

Penn (as Marathon):  If the Shard likes the aquarium...

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I do like the aquarium, but I feel like I'm using my powers for evil to influence the kids who don't have money.

Penn (as Marathon):  I have a feeling they'll find a way in there, even without money.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, then it's fine. Just don't get eaten by the sharks.

Penn (as Marathon):  Is this your kind of music, by the way? It's Sasnak Funk Symphony.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I do like funk. Yes.

Penn (as Marathon):  Okay. Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  There's a lot of, because I hung out with the quintet for long enough, I picked up like they'd be practicing and I'd ask silly questions and then they'd take me seriously and answer them. And I actually learned like you know a little bit of the history and like how some of these styles are related to each other.

Penn (as Marathon):  Cool, music nerd too.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, I just like to know things. If I finish this beer, maybe we can go hit that dance floor?

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, I was just about to invite you up. What'd you get to drink? Is it a sour?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  In honor of the occasion, it's a Sasnak pale ale, and so they're really trying to channel some of the stink and the flavor of the Guts with this.

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  But you know, in a palatable way and not in an actual way. It's kind of just reminiscent of the feeling of the Guts.

Penn (as Marathon):  I think you've totally sold me on never taking a sip out of that drink.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, there are better ones, but this one is only here, so I had to make sure that I try it.

Penn (as Marathon):  Hey, the more you know. I like that. No, I love trying things, and you know, I've been - I I don't have the best dance moves out there, but I'd be willing to try with you.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, I'll I'll teach you something.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  You get one move, and then you're gonna have to do that one move all night because it - no, you're - you'll know what to do. If I -

Penn (as Marathon):  I'll guess.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  - if I remember more than my couple of things.

Penn (as Marathon):  Dancing's not too bad. I know how to dance a little bit, so I was just underplaying myself.

Penn:  And Marathon scoots up out of her chair and holds a hand out to Cassidy on the other side of the table towards the dance floor.

Sydney:  Cassidy takes it and starts slowly working into a groove on the beat as they get out to the dance floor.

Nick:  I need a Coordination check from both of you.

Sydney:  I have two yellows and three greens.

Penn:  Ooh, I've got two yellows and two greens.

Nick:  Okay, so we use Cassidy's pool and add a blue die to it. Let's say it's average difficulty.

Sydney:  So I'll be rolling two yellows, three greens, and a blue against two purples.

[dice rolling]

Sydney:  No successes, four advantages, and a Triumph.

Nick:  Huh. Okay. So you all do not particularly succeed at dancing here, but you still have a really good time, and something else really good happens. So describe how that goes.

Penn:  Cassidy and Marathon's dancing is maybe not to the same rhythm or the same types of dancing that most of the people here seem like they've learned over the course of their lives on Sasnak or in the Domes, and they've started having to dance off to the side of the dance floor together to avoid awkwardness and stares.

Sydney:  Yeah, Cassidy's showing Marathon some of these trickier sequences of moves that she learned in the clubs at Mellow Tone, and they either haven't made it to Sasnak or she was at Mellow Tone long enough ago that these came and went, and either way, while their dances are fun and energetic, they just are unrecognizable to the other people who are off doing their more choreographed kind of line dances or group sequences that are easy enough to pick up, but isn't the stuff that Cassidy knows.

Penn:  Here's a pitch for a Triumph - just after we finish laughing after you've taught Marathon a move, the slow dance funk starts.

Sydney:  Yeah, that works.

Nick:  So as Cassidy and Marathon are dancing with these moves that don't blend in with the rest of the crowd, the funk chart peters out to a final high note, and in between songs, the vocalist points towards Marathon and Cassidy and says,

Nick (as Vocalist):  This next chart goes out to those two over there from Mellow Tone. You think we wouldn't notice that style, but the Sasnack Funk Symphony recognizes the oldies and the goodies. 1-2-3-4

Nick:

And they start a new song that's a funk slow dance with a very heavy driving bass beat.

Penn:  The lights dim as this track has begun to play, and Marathon gets a sparkle in her eye and tries to set into more formal dance with Cassidy, kind of striking a little invitation pose for it.

Penn (as Marathon):  Can I have this dance?

Sydney:  Cassidy makes a face.

Penn (as Marathon):  I know it's a little corny.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I've I've done enough ballroom, but I'll I'll show you a different one.

Penn (as Marathon):  Okay, yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  But I'm leading.

Penn (as Marathon):  Hey, I can appreciate a lady taking charge.

Sydney:  Cassidy wraps Marathon up and starts putting her through a gentle, slower pace but closer dance.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  This was a good choice. Thank you.

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh yeah, I thought it'd be like a fun release, little celebration. I appreciate you being so patient with me over the last, I don't know, crazy time we've had in the city - a few months?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, it's been pretty busy. Wouldn't expect to get so involved in everything.

Penn (as Marathon):  No, when I first got here, I was electric for the city because I missed it, but I kind of missed the road. Looking at the stars.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, you know, there's a first time for everything.

Penn (as Marathon):  I don't get nearly enough of your cooking.

Penn:  Marathon looks kind of shyly away.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well the plans to get back out pretty soon. I think we've accomplished what we were hoping to here. Just took a few months.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Birdie will probably either have to say some goodbyes - well, Birdie will be saying goodbyes either way.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't think she's staying here, but if she suddenly changes her mind, she's saying goodbye to us instead.

Penn (as Marathon):  God, I hope not. Selfishly.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't think so.

Penn (as Marathon):  But think we'll still have time for little excursions, nights like this, you and me on the road?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I mean, as much as we did before. Sometimes, if there's a city nearby?

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Or if we're not going that far because the truck's stuck in a mud pit.

Penn (as Marathon):  [laugh]

Sydney (as Cassidy):  It'll be nice to get back.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, where not so many people know you anymore.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, we don't like being recognized.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, I was hoping the people in the Domes here, you know, they're a little too civilized -

Penn:  Marathon takes on an air.

Penn (as Marathon):  - for X-biking, so I don't know if there’s - you know, I thought it would be lower profile.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  It's so low brow.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  No, it's good. I think we made our little bit of a difference.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah. If we want to get even quieter, I did see a little spot - I mean, we are in one of the Domes, there's a little farmland not too far away, if you've got the shoes for walking.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I mean if we get out into the dirt I'll just go barefoot.

Penn (as Marathon):  I can carry them for you too.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  It's a little different than Guts, but - no, I'm I'm I'm strong and capable. [laugh]

Penn (as Marathon):  Ah, I know, quite strong, quite capable. But I appreciate every little thing you let me do for you.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Thank you. Yeah, it's nice when we're not-I don't know-being crushed under whatever the stress of enemies and walls collapsing in on us and everything else.

Penn (as Marathon):  You ever think about maybe more quiet traveling lifestyle?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't - with the Knight, I don't really have the choice.

Penn (as Marathon):  I mean, in the future, future.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  We have the power so we got to go do good stuff with it.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I expect - I mean, with how old the Knight is, I think it's going to outlast me. So

Penn:  Marathon gets a little frown.

Penn (as Marathon):  I mean, probably, but hopefully not. Hopefully, we can move on from it. Doesn't just have to be our responsibility forever, or your responsibility forever - or until you die, I should say.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't know. I'm still young. That's not going to be soon. Hopefully.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yep.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  What?

Penn (as Marathon):  No, you are.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  You want something?

Penn (as Marathon):  Nah. I just, I just thought it was -

Sydney:  Cassidy has mock outrage on her face.

Penn (as Marathon):  Well, you know -

Sydney (as Cassidy):  What? You're you're you're intimidated by my my youthful energy?

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah, you your spring chickenness is totally - I'm like I'm just overwhelmed by that youthful energy. I can't, you know, I can't. It's that impulsiveness you have, you know?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Uh huh.

Penn (as Marathon):  Mhm. Yep.

Penn:  And there's a little spin in there somewhere. We see later in a temperature controlled field of soy where there's another little blanket laid out very similar to the one that Cassidy and Marathon used on their little plant date earlier. They're both lying down, staring at the stars.

Penn (as Marathon):  Do you ever use these for your maps?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Uh, in which way?

Penn (as Marathon):  I don't know. Uh, placing yourself. I I hear astro navigation is a skill that some map makers have used.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Well, I mean, if you're, it depends what you're trying to do, because there's definitely some people who have done like astro cartography.

Penn (as Marathon):  Oh, -

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Where -

Penn (as Marathon):  - yes.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Yeah, they're making maps of the stars, but yeah, I mean, it's not very often that I'm in a spot that I don't know how I got there. So the stars are really useful like if you don't have any references, but because I'm making maps as I go and I'm like keeping track of landmarks and everything, and they're not light enough to make maps by, I mostly just enjoy them.

Penn (as Marathon):  Yeah. Did you get any stories about the stars growing up?

Sydney (as Cassidy):  Um, they're big burning balls of gas in space.

Penn (as Marathon):  Well yeah.

Penn:  Marathon rolls her head a little bit.

Sydney (as Cassidy):  I don't know. The the - Quirk is a pretty practical city, so not too much of the the stories. Or if there were, they weren't passed on to us. I don't know. How about you?
